Tesamorelin in selected adults with reduced GH secretion

A small trial distinguished visceral fat from subcutaneous fat and clinical events.

Clinical trialPaper year: 2012Tesamorelin

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

Sixty adults with abdominal obesity and reduced growth-hormone secretion entered a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study lasting 12 months. Researchers measured abdominal fat with imaging and assessed vascular and metabolic risk markers.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

The investigators reported reduced visceral fat and favorable changes in some risk markers, including carotid intima-media thickness. Subcutaneous abdominal fat did not show a significant treatment effect in the reported analysis.

03 / LIMITS

How should it be interpreted?

This selected population and small sample limit broader conclusions. A change in a risk marker is not proof of fewer heart attacks or strokes. The results do not establish a general obesity treatment recommendation, long-term clinical safety or efficacy of other supply materials.
