GHK-Cu and wound matrix: interpreting a rat chamber experiment

A 1993 animal experiment measured extracellular-matrix accumulation in wound chambers.

Preclinical studyPaper year: 1993GHK-Cu

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

Researchers implanted mesh wound chambers in rats and compared saline with GHK-Cu exposure. Collected material was analyzed for proteins, collagen, DNA, glycosaminoglycans and selected messenger RNAs.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

The exposed chambers showed greater accumulation of several matrix components. Collagen-related signals and some collagen messenger RNAs increased, while the measured TGF-beta messenger RNA did not show the same response.

03 / LIMITS

How should it be interpreted?

An implanted wound chamber measures a controlled local tissue response, not cosmetic improvement or clinical healing in people. More matrix accumulation is not a complete measure of useful tissue repair. The results do not establish the properties of any current supply batch.
