BPC-157 and tendon cells: what a laboratory study can show

Tendon-cell experiments explore mechanisms rather than patient recovery.

Preclinical studyPaper year: 2011BPC-157

01 / DESIGN

What was studied?

The investigators studied rat tendon explants and cultured tendon fibroblasts, including cell movement, survival under oxidative stress and signaling pathways.

02 / FINDINGS

What did the researchers report?

BPC-157 was associated with increased explant outgrowth and cell migration, with changes in FAK-paxillin signaling. The proliferation assay did not show a direct increase in cell proliferation.

03 / LIMITS

How should it be interpreted?

This was not a human injury trial. Cell migration and explant outgrowth do not establish faster recovery, human safety or a clinical indication. The results also cannot be assumed to apply to a BPC-157 combination product.
